Biography

Dr. Patricia Brownell, is Associate Professor Emerita of Social Service at Fordham University and Emerita Scholar, Ravazzin Center on Aging. Dr. Brownell currently serves as Immediate Past President of the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and has served as consultant to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) for an Expert Group Meeting on Neglect, Abuse and Violence Against Older Women. She has also served as Chair, Sub-Committee on Older Women (SCOW) of the NGO Committee on Ageing, and has represented the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, an NGO with Special Consultative Status to the UN, at the New York City UN site.

Dr. Brownell is Past President of the State Society on Aging of New York and is a John A. Hartford Geriatric Social Work Faculty Scholar. Brownell’s specific interests and experiences addressing abuse against older women will help shape and frame discussions at the Forum.
